Bodyboard Wise Bodyboarder Skill Milestones
The ASI Bodyboard Wise learn-to-bodyboard framework measures personal riding ability across clear, standardised skill criteria:
- Surf Safety & Awareness: Ocean hazards, wave mechanics, and self-rescue fundamentals.
- Beginner Level Bodyboarder: Catching broken waves, basic board control, and trimming across unbroken waves.
- Intermediate Level Bodyboarder: Performing and linking manoeuvres in the top half of the wave, below the lip.
- Advanced Level Bodyboarder: Performing and linking manoeuvres above the lip (Air, ARS [air, roll, spin], 360 spin forward & reverse, backflip) as well as above or below the lip (dropknee tail-slide/slash, floater, tube ride) in surf up to 6ft (2 metres).
- Elite-Advanced Level Bodyboarder: Performing and linking intermediate and advanced level manoeuvres below and above the lip in surf over 6ft (2 metres) at any location worldwide.
Professional Bodyboarding Instructor & Coaching Qualifications
ASI offers two levels of professional instructor accreditations:
- Level 1 Bodyboarding Instructor: Requires Intermediate-level bodyboarding skill proficiency. Qualifies you to instruct beginner to intermediate bodyboarding sessions.
- Level 2 Bodyboarding Instructor: Requires Advanced-level bodyboarding skill proficiency. Qualifies you to coach intermediate to advanced bodyboarding sessions.
