The ASI Level 1 Bodyboarding Instructor course is the first course to complete to develop your bodyboarding instructor career.

This course is recognised as the best and most comprehensive bodyboarding instructor course in the world and prepares instructors to deliver beginner and intermediate level bodyboarding lessons with safety and confidence.

Aim

Deliver beginner to intermediate bodyboarding lessons and activities.

Locations / Remit

  • Beginner level bodyboarding locations:  surf no larger than 1½ft (½ metre)

  • Intermediate level bodyboarding locations: surf up to 3ft (1 metre)

Entry Requirements

Before enrolling in this course, you will have:

  • at least 250 hours personal bodyboarding experience 
  • surfing skills and knowledge equivalent to ASI Intermediate Bodyboarding Level. Able to perform right or left hand turn, bottom turn, top turn, rail to rail S turns, roll link manoeuvres, in the top half of wave, below the lip, in 3ft surf. 
  • English speaking skills (online couse manual has google translate)

Workshop:  
An intensive course that focuses on the major components, with the ability to interact with the trainer and the group. 
Duration:  2 days. 

Flexible Online Learning: 
Study in your own time with ASI's e-learning platform.  Upload video to demonstrate skills. 

Online Courses - ASI's E-learning Platform
ASI's e-learning platform provides access to training manuals, videos, reference materials and assessments.  Access is available for all the above delivery options.

Course Requirements - Workshop

In person, practical and theory, with the ability to interact with the trainer and the group.  Complete most assessments at the workshop and/or gain insights on how to prepare post workshop assessments.

After the workshop, online access is also provided for all training resources and to upload assessments. Plus a paper copy, as listed below, is also provided at workshop.

Course Requirements

At Workshop:

  • Complete theory assessments and exercises, practice at beach.
  • Demonstrate ASI Intermediate level bodyboarding ability.
  • Complete written assessment

After Workshop:

  • Complete 25 hours practical work experience, assisting in the delivery of beginner and intermediate bodyboarding lessons, at an ASI accredited bodyboarding, surf school or other approved school.  Submit logbook of hours/experience.

    (Note: 5 hours signed off at the workshop, leaving you 20 hours to complete).

Other:

Note: Surf Rescue and First Aid Certificates can be provided before or after workshop or within 12 months of enrolment. 

Time to Complete: You have 12 months from date of workshop to complete all course requirements.  

Re-assessment Fees: Apply if not yet competent in surfing ability or project. Fees

  • Complete online multi choice test - 15 questions
  • Submit video demonstrating ASI Intermediate level Bodyboarding ability.
  • Complete 25 hours practical work experience, assisting in the delivery of beginner or intermediate bodyboarding lessons, at an ASI accredited bodyboarding school, surf school or other approved school.  Submit logbook of hours/experience.

Equipment

The following equipment and clothing is required to complete the training:

  • Bodyboarding clothing
  • Bodyboard, fins, leash to demonstrate intermediate bodyboarding skills
  • Access to ASI bodyboarding or surf school to complete your practical hours training
  • Computer to access ASI e-learning platform  / submit assessments

In addition, for Online learning courses: 

  • Video camera or mobile phone to take video of practical skills

ASI Level 1 Bodyboarding Instructor

Renewal

Each year, ASI Instructors renew their ASI Bodyboarding Instructor certificate.
